Stress and Your Skin

Did you know that mental, physical and emotional stress can all significantly impact your skin? You might notice a few spots show up, or have a flare up of eczema, rosacea or dermatitis or your skin just might look a little lacklustre.

Research shows a direct connection between our brain and skin. When our brains perceive excessive stress our bodies try to adapt by triggering a cascade of physiological events. A significant release in stress hormones leads to stress-induced inflammatory skin conditions.

Epinephrine and norepinephrine (adrenalin and noradrenalin) play keys roles in our bodies “fight or flight” response. During times of stress these hormones are released to help you run from a potential threat. As well as causing your heart rate to increase these hormones have been shown to increase DNA damage and inhibit DNA repair, accelerating how our skin ages.

So we think now is as good a time as ever to announce our November special which is our Meditation Facial for $99 (normally $129). This 75 min treatment is the ultimate treat for the mind and body and comprises our signature facial with a mind-soothing guided meditation.
